Founded in Bologna, in 1977, Mandarina Duck is a true Italian design house with a lot of history and heritage. Our designers, who work on creating new shapes, who use ever better enduring and innovative materials and think up more efficient ways of traveling thanks to our bags, suitcases and accessories are therefore always attuned to design all over the world.
But, they are also proud to be a part of the great Italian tradition of quality, craftsmanship and forward-thinking design.
A great way to refresh your memory about the designs from early 20th century Italy, from 1900 until 1940, is the exhibition ‘Dolce Vita?’ at the Musée D’Orsay In Paris, that is on until 13th of September.
That era, full of desire for progress, was the time of development for the decorative arts, making them not only aesthetically pleasing, but also functional. Together with the traditional artists (painters, architects etc) cabinetmakers, ceramicists, and other craftsmen worked in unison to create a distinctive styles, encompassing Futurism, Metaphysics and modern classicism, which still has a huge influence on modern design, as we know it.
