The team at Mandarina Duck loves beautiful objects that are also clever and innovative. This time our choice is also a bit whimsical. Instead of working with the traditional and old-fashioned crystal found in most chandeliers, Magda Jurek, a Polish furniture and product designer whose found the design studio Pani Jurek, works with glass test tubes.
Just like crystal, the glass captures and reflects the light beautifully, casting a range of rainbow colours in the sunshine. Since the test tubes are actually also useable, it’s possible to fill them with water and flower stems, creating a colourful and light-weight piece of natural life and colour inside your living space.
Named the Maria S.C. chandelier, as a reference to the Nobel Prize-winning scientist, it’s a fitting brain teaser that this piece has in common with Magda’s other designs which you can shop on her website. http://shop.panijurek.pl
